Test Method: – Tests the ability of medium to high viscosity oils to separate from water when water contamination and turbulence are encountered. The sample is stirred together with distilled water for 5 min. at constant temperature. After a specified settling period, the degree of separation is measured by volume and the percentage of water in oil is determined. For lighter oils and synthetic fluids, the ASTM D1401 Water Separability Test is used.

Description :-

Constant temperature bath with stirrers for water seperability test. Load the 360 ml of sample & 90 ml of water ( with EP Additives) OR 405 ml of sample & 45 ml of water (Without EP Additives) . Load the separating funnel in bath at 82 +/- 1 deg c.

Stirs sample-water mixtures at 4500rpm+/- 500 RPM for 5 minutes and record the volume of oil and water after 5 minutes.
